From the reviews

"I LOVE going to bar(re)." No, not that kind of bar. Barre is a combination of yoga, pilates, and ballet. Your own body weight is the main weight that you "lift." & it indeed works you hard!

It's an addiction! I've been doing pure barre for over two years now and every class is still a challenge. They constantly switch up the workouts and challenge you to use your own body's resistance, so the work never gets easy.

★★★★★ — Stacey, Apr 2019

2025 update: I am still with Pure Barre. They have added a bunch of different classes to get a cardio, strength training, mobility and flexibility. Such a nice mix! Still addicted to it. The studio has very good teachers, and the best thing, new teachers are coming. There is business continuity.

Surprisingly good workout. I am pretty active and usually do intense cardio and strength training 6+ times/week. I’ve done barre3 before and still doing it in my recovery days because it is not challenging to me at all.

Your first barre class at Pure Barre

New to barre? Almost everyone is their first time, and a good studio expects beginners to walk in the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: barre blends small isometric holds and tiny pulses at a ballet barre with light weights and mat work — it's low-impact and joint-friendly, but it works muscles you didn't know you had, so a little shaking in your legs is the point, not a problem. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: fitted leggings and a top you can move in — nothing baggy, so the instructor can see your form. Grip socks: required here, and sold on-site if you don’t have a pair; the grippy soles keep you steady during the pulses. What to bring: water and a small towel. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign in and meet your instructor. It clicks fast — most people say their third class feels completely different from their first.

Barre is low-impact, so it suits most bodies and fitness levels — but if you're pregnant or working around an injury, check with a doctor and let your instructor know so they can offer modifications.
