From the reviews
I hadn’t worked out in many years and was pretty nervous to get started. After my first class, I really felt at home in this studio. It’s not like a large chain atmosphere or clicky gym. It’s a broad group of kind women all contending for their personal level of health and fitness.
I felt welcomed from the minute I stepped through the door. Other people who were taking the class came up and introduced themselves and included me in their small talk. The instructor took the time to learn my name. This was my first time doing a barre class so I was a beginner.
This is Melodie Carswell , I joined Barre For Life, never realizing how addicting it would become for me. I was wearing size 14 clothing. I can now slip into size 8 and my Doctor took me off blood pressure medicine and my cholesterol is also in normal range.
I hesitated joining a Barre studio for too long because I had an idea in my head of it being a competitive and cliquey environment. After researching Barre for Life, I just had a good feeling about the studio and the owner so I pushed myself out of my comfort zone and took my first class. Boy am I glad that I did.
Your first barre class at Barre For Life
New to barre? Almost everyone is their first time, and a good studio expects beginners to walk in the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: barre blends small isometric holds and tiny pulses at a ballet barre with light weights and mat work — it's low-impact and joint-friendly, but it works muscles you didn't know you had, so a little shaking in your legs is the point, not a problem. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: fitted leggings and a top you can move in — nothing baggy, so the instructor can see your form. Grip socks: required here, and sold on-site if you don’t have a pair; the grippy soles keep you steady during the pulses. What to bring: water and a small towel. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign in and meet your instructor. It clicks fast — most people say their third class feels completely different from their first.
