Would give 6 stars if I could!!! First of all, barre is the perfect workout if you’re looking for something that will challenge you but won’t leave you huffing and puffing or feeling defeated. I can do barre most days of the week if I wanted to—it’s very sustainable yet still pushes me every single time!
I cannot say enough nice things about this studio. I found it when I was brand new to Madison, didn't know anyone, and had never in my life taken an exercise class. Upon crossing the threshold into Barre District Madison, what I found was a real community! The teachers are kind, funny, creative, and motivating.
I’ve been going to Barre District classes for almost 5 years now and this studio is exactly what I love about barre! Each and every “barretender” instructor is so welcoming, kind, and friendly. The studio is homey and comfy, an environment that gives great energy and support.
Take it from the girl who has tried it all on the group fitness front….Barre District is the real thing. It’s literally for EVERYONE ….yoga enthusiasts, boot camp folks, runners, bikers, rowers, those getting back into fitness…those who’ve been there a while.
Your first barre class at Barre District Madison
New to barre? Almost everyone is their first time, and a good studio expects beginners to walk in the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: barre blends small isometric holds and tiny pulses at a ballet barre with light weights and mat work — it's low-impact and joint-friendly, but it works muscles you didn't know you had, so a little shaking in your legs is the point, not a problem. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: fitted leggings and a top you can move in — nothing baggy, so the instructor can see your form. Grip socks: required here, and sold on-site if you don’t have a pair; the grippy soles keep you steady during the pulses. What to bring: water and a small towel. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign in and meet your instructor. It clicks fast — most people say their third class feels completely different from their first.
