From the reviews
When I first moved to Williamsburg, I saw a post on Facebook for a free class; I was way out of shape and had not exercised in over 28 years regularly. With some encouragement from some friends back in Indiana I took the plunge and tried a free class.
Pure Barre Williamsburg is an amazing place to spend your time working out, all because of their wonderful teachers! Their energy, positive reinforcement, friendliness, and willingness to support in any way possible is incomparable to any other place!
I was hesitant to give Pure Barre a try because I didn't think group exercise was "my thing" or that I'd be "good at it." A friend convinced me to try it, and after a few classes, I was totally hooked. This was nearly four years ago and it's now one of the best parts of my life.
I look forward to every workout at Pure Barre Williamsburg. The instructors create such a positive and encouraging atmosphere. The community is welcoming and positive, and I especially appreciate the age diversity among participants.
Your first barre class at Pure Barre
New to barre? Almost everyone is their first time, and a good studio expects beginners to walk in the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: barre blends small isometric holds and tiny pulses at a ballet barre with light weights and mat work — it's low-impact and joint-friendly, but it works muscles you didn't know you had, so a little shaking in your legs is the point, not a problem. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: fitted leggings and a top you can move in — nothing baggy, so the instructor can see your form. Grip socks: most barre studios require grip socks — bring a pair or check whether they sell them at the front desk; the grippy soles keep you steady during the pulses. What to bring: water and a small towel. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign in and meet your instructor. It clicks fast — most people say their third class feels completely different from their first.
