From the reviews

I’ve been going to Pure Barre Bucktown for over six months now, long past when I would usually burn out or get bored with an exercise class. The classes are similar enough to feel comfortable, but the instructors switch it up enough that I’m always getting a great workout.

I love Pure Barre...and I cannot possibly overemphasize how much I have HATED exercise in the past – and exercise classes in particular. 😅 I grew up playing competitive tennis until I got a shoulder injury, and ever since I have chronic pain there.

★★★★★ — Julia, Jun 2025

I’m a little addicted to this place! The instructors are so skilled and the music helps build understanding of tempo. I joined about a month ago and have caught on to the positioning. 50 minutes seems to fly by.

★★★★★ — Mary, May 2022

Pure Barre Bucktown has absolutely amazing instructors and a great space! It's very friendly but they push you to get the most out of your time there. Instructors will give you options to modify things to make them more comfortable or more challenging so you can dial in what feels right for you.

Your first barre class at Pure Barre

New to barre? Almost everyone is their first time, and a good studio expects beginners to walk in the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: barre blends small isometric holds and tiny pulses at a ballet barre with light weights and mat work — it's low-impact and joint-friendly, but it works muscles you didn't know you had, so a little shaking in your legs is the point, not a problem. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: fitted leggings and a top you can move in — nothing baggy, so the instructor can see your form. Grip socks: most barre studios require grip socks — bring a pair or check whether they sell them at the front desk; the grippy soles keep you steady during the pulses. What to bring: water and a small towel. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign in and meet your instructor. It clicks fast — most people say their third class feels completely different from their first.

Barre is low-impact, so it suits most bodies and fitness levels — but if you're pregnant or working around an injury, check with a doctor and let your instructor know so they can offer modifications.
