I decided to try Barre for the first time this week. I took the Align class with Morgan and it was great. Morgan is an awesome instructor and made me feel at ease as a first timer. Great workout and the staff was very helpful and informative in terms of signing up for a membership.
I had tried Pure Barre in the past at a different location and hadn't loved it. Pure Barre Southlands on the other hand has far exceeded my expectations. The staff is so friendly and Julie is an amazing instructor.
I was bored of my previous workout routine to a point where I had stopped exercising completely. I was looking to get back in shape after the summer and stumbled upon Pure Barre Southlands on Facebook. I received an offer to try a class for free and was excited to try it!
I tried Pure Barre after my friends talked about how great it was. As a runner, I wanted to add an activity to my workout routine that was low impact but still allowed me to build muscle strength. Barre was exactly what I was looking for! I feel myself getting stronger after ever class.
Your first barre class at Pure Barre
New to barre? Almost everyone is their first time, and a good studio expects beginners to walk in the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: barre blends small isometric holds and tiny pulses at a ballet barre with light weights and mat work — it's low-impact and joint-friendly, but it works muscles you didn't know you had, so a little shaking in your legs is the point, not a problem. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: fitted leggings and a top you can move in — nothing baggy, so the instructor can see your form. Grip socks: most barre studios require grip socks — bring a pair or check whether they sell them at the front desk; the grippy soles keep you steady during the pulses. What to bring: water and a small towel. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign in and meet your instructor. It clicks fast — most people say their third class feels completely different from their first.
