From the reviews

I’m a 72-year-old recovering from two shoulder surgeries in the past year and a hip replacement four years ago. As a result, I’ve become quite de-conditioned and realized that a good Barre class was desperately needed.

I recently started going to this barre3 studio and have really liked it so far. Everyone is friendly and they learn your name right away, which makes it feel comfortable from the start. The instructors check in during class and offer alternatives if something doesn’t feel great, so it always feels supportive.

I took Meghan's class while I was in town visiting family and really loved it. I was expecting a normal Barre class but this was much harder and much more functional, I felt like I got a really good workout! Meghan was also a fantastic teacher and really welcoming and helpful to someone new to the class.

I love Barre3 because they always encourage modifications and do what makes you feel strong 💪 the Roosevelt location only has 1 classroom, but if you get membership, you can also go to the Edmonds location. For me, I take Edmonds online classes at home when I couldn't make time for in person.

Your first barre class at barre3

New to barre? Almost everyone is their first time, and a good studio expects beginners to walk in the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: barre blends small isometric holds and tiny pulses at a ballet barre with light weights and mat work — it's low-impact and joint-friendly, but it works muscles you didn't know you had, so a little shaking in your legs is the point, not a problem. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: fitted leggings and a top you can move in — nothing baggy, so the instructor can see your form. Grip socks: most barre studios require grip socks — bring a pair or check whether they sell them at the front desk; the grippy soles keep you steady during the pulses. What to bring: water and a small towel. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign in and meet your instructor. It clicks fast — most people say their third class feels completely different from their first.

Barre is low-impact, so it suits most bodies and fitness levels — but if you're pregnant or working around an injury, check with a doctor and let your instructor know so they can offer modifications.
