From the reviews

I have been to about 10 barre classes here and keep coming back for more! The work outs are hard and fast paced but they are definitely effective. The instructors are high energy and have all been great. I have mainly done the barre class and quick tuck.

I absolutely love the barre classes at Studio Barre James Island! I am very new to barre and I love doing classes with Katie. She has amazing energy and will help you with form and any questions but makes me feel very comfortable when I need to modify or take a break (my body is still very much getting used to the new…

This is hands down one of my favorite workout classes in Charleston. Their Tuck & Burn class is a mix of barre and cardio, and it KILLS me every time in the best possible way. I always feel like I get my money's worth when I go to that class. The studio is small and feels very local and welcoming.

★★★★★ — Samantha, May 2022

I can't say enough good things about Studio Barre James Island. The workouts are fun, challenging, and consistent enough that you feel like you get to know a routine, with enough variation to keep it from getting stale or boring. The studio and boutique are clean, cute, and bright.

Your first barre class at barre3

New to barre? Almost everyone is their first time, and a good studio expects beginners to walk in the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: barre blends small isometric holds and tiny pulses at a ballet barre with light weights and mat work — it's low-impact and joint-friendly, but it works muscles you didn't know you had, so a little shaking in your legs is the point, not a problem. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: fitted leggings and a top you can move in — nothing baggy, so the instructor can see your form. Grip socks: required here, and sold on-site if you don’t have a pair; the grippy soles keep you steady during the pulses. What to bring: water and a small towel. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign in and meet your instructor. It clicks fast — most people say their third class feels completely different from their first.

Barre is low-impact, so it suits most bodies and fitness levels — but if you're pregnant or working around an injury, check with a doctor and let your instructor know so they can offer modifications.
