I love Pure Barre, especially with the Charleston girls! The Downtown Charleston studio is always very welcoming, clean and tidy. They have all of the toiletries you need to freshen up after a class too, which I love!

Awesome experience! First time trying Pure Barre and I loved it. When I walked in the staff was extremely welcoming and friendly. The instructor (Brooke) was fantastic and so helpful correcting my form and offering encouragement throughout the class.

★★★★★ — Samantha, Jul 2016

I’m an instructor from Fairlawn, Ohio and came to take class with my husband while in SC for dance nationals for the kid. PBCHS was beyond awesome. They were friendly, inviting and super eager to help and make our PB experience great!

Your first barre class at Pure Barre

New to barre? Almost everyone is their first time, and a good studio expects beginners to walk in the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: barre blends small isometric holds and tiny pulses at a ballet barre with light weights and mat work — it's low-impact and joint-friendly, but it works muscles you didn't know you had, so a little shaking in your legs is the point, not a problem. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: fitted leggings and a top you can move in — nothing baggy, so the instructor can see your form. Grip socks: most barre studios require grip socks — bring a pair or check whether they sell them at the front desk; the grippy soles keep you steady during the pulses. What to bring: water and a small towel. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign in and meet your instructor. It clicks fast — most people say their third class feels completely different from their first.

Barre is low-impact, so it suits most bodies and fitness levels — but if you're pregnant or working around an injury, check with a doctor and let your instructor know so they can offer modifications.
