Maria is absolutely spectacular. This was my first class and I was super nervous. The class was challenging and moved quickly. The instructor gave phenomenal encouragement throughout the class and was helpful with 1 on 1 assistance. Bless you, Maria. Special shout out to all the students in class.

I've been going to Barre3 for three years now and love this studio! All of the teachers are so welcoming and offer a great mix of challenging yet fun classes. Meredith and Lindsay have created such a wonderful atmosphere at the studio that make you excited to come back.

I started going to Barre3 in December 2017, right after my second child turned one. I'd been struggling for years with chronic back pain and when I walked into Barre3 for the first time, my core was weak, my back hurt all the time, and I had resigned myself to feeling injured, in some way, for the rest of my life.

barre3 Old Town is an amazing studio! Every time I walk in the door the staff members are all so friendly and professional. The studio is clean, bright, warm, and inviting. The workouts are killer but are also so gentle on my body.

Your first barre class at barre3

New to barre? Almost everyone is their first time, and a good studio expects beginners to walk in the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: barre blends small isometric holds and tiny pulses at a ballet barre with light weights and mat work — it's low-impact and joint-friendly, but it works muscles you didn't know you had, so a little shaking in your legs is the point, not a problem. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: fitted leggings and a top you can move in — nothing baggy, so the instructor can see your form. Grip socks: most barre studios require grip socks — bring a pair or check whether they sell them at the front desk; the grippy soles keep you steady during the pulses. What to bring: water and a small towel. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign in and meet your instructor. It clicks fast — most people say their third class feels completely different from their first.

Barre is low-impact, so it suits most bodies and fitness levels — but if you're pregnant or working around an injury, check with a doctor and let your instructor know so they can offer modifications.
