From the reviews
I cannot say enough good things about The Refinery! All the instructors are so genuine and kind, as well as all the clients. I hated going to gyms because I was so self conscious, but The Refinery has such a welcoming atmosphere.
I went to classes at The Refinery for almost three years before moving away from Tallahassee and loved it. The owner and instructors are incredibly welcoming people who genuinely care about their customers (this is why small local businesses are the best).
I have been attending this studio for a couple of months and I am obsessed! I did not think I would ever enjoy working out this much and I am certain that I will never find another studio like it, anywhere.
This is a first class barre and fitness studio. The instructors are well trained and very helpful, they care about your progress. There is a great variety in the routines, no class is ever the same so you don't ever get bored. I really love the emphasis on ballet-inspired isometric exercise.
Your first barre class at The Refinery Barre Fitness Studios
New to barre? Almost everyone is their first time, and a good studio expects beginners to walk in the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: barre blends small isometric holds and tiny pulses at a ballet barre with light weights and mat work — it's low-impact and joint-friendly, but it works muscles you didn't know you had, so a little shaking in your legs is the point, not a problem. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: fitted leggings and a top you can move in — nothing baggy, so the instructor can see your form. Grip socks: most barre studios require grip socks — bring a pair or check whether they sell them at the front desk; the grippy soles keep you steady during the pulses. What to bring: water and a small towel. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign in and meet your instructor. It clicks fast — most people say their third class feels completely different from their first.
