From the reviews
Pure Barre has become so much more than just a workout for me — it’s truly my happy place. From the moment I walk in, I’m surrounded by an incredible, uplifting community that makes me feel supported, welcomed, and encouraged every single class.
I took the foundations class with Carmel and loved it. The studio was new and clean and big enough to accommodate everyone attending the class, but intimate enough that you could mingle with others while you waited to go in. Carmel is an experienced instructor but she's personable at the same time.
PBSS is an amazing studio! Within a few months of attending classes a few times I week— and with no other workouts— I feel stronger than at any point in my life. I marvel how two pound weights can lead to such dramatic changes but it works. So while I love the classes, what makes PBSS so special is the community.
I injured my knee three months ago and could barely walk. I continued taking classes at Pure Barre Silver Spring all through my recovery and physical therapy. The teachers have been very helpful, modifying the exercises for me as needed. Now my knee is 98 percent back to normal and I feel terrific.
Your first barre class at Pure Barre
New to barre? Almost everyone is their first time, and a good studio expects beginners to walk in the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: barre blends small isometric holds and tiny pulses at a ballet barre with light weights and mat work — it's low-impact and joint-friendly, but it works muscles you didn't know you had, so a little shaking in your legs is the point, not a problem. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: fitted leggings and a top you can move in — nothing baggy, so the instructor can see your form. Grip socks: most barre studios require grip socks — bring a pair or check whether they sell them at the front desk; the grippy soles keep you steady during the pulses. What to bring: water and a small towel. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign in and meet your instructor. It clicks fast — most people say their third class feels completely different from their first.
