From the reviews
I have been a member at Pure Barre Midlothian for far longer than I’ve ever stuck with any exercise regimen. The welcoming community gets me in the door and the variety of classes offers a constant challenge that meets you wherever you are. Modifications are always available and there is no judgement.
I always look forward to Pure Barre, unlike the other fitness routines I’ve done over the years, which I would dread. Each PB class is different and I feel like I work harder and more efficiently in 50 minutes at PB than I do in 2 hours at the gym. I get cardio, strength, and stretching/toning done all at once.
What I love most about Pure Barre is that it challenges me mentally and physically while still feeling encouraging and empowering. Every class pushes me in a different way, and I always leave feeling stronger — not just physically, but mentally too.
I’ve been a member for three years and love it. I am a fitness instructor myself and workout regularly with a variety of memberships as well. Everyone offers me a different challenge. Pure Barre is definitely a challenge, builds balance, core and is focused on slow twitch muscles.
Your first barre class at Pure Barre
New to barre? Almost everyone is their first time, and a good studio expects beginners to walk in the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: barre blends small isometric holds and tiny pulses at a ballet barre with light weights and mat work — it's low-impact and joint-friendly, but it works muscles you didn't know you had, so a little shaking in your legs is the point, not a problem. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: fitted leggings and a top you can move in — nothing baggy, so the instructor can see your form. Grip socks: most barre studios require grip socks — bring a pair or check whether they sell them at the front desk; the grippy soles keep you steady during the pulses. What to bring: water and a small towel. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign in and meet your instructor. It clicks fast — most people say their third class feels completely different from their first.
