I took my first Pure Barre class today with Laruen and it was amazing. Learning how to isolate specific body parts in an efficient and controlled manner was expressed with easy understanding. As a dancer, it is very important to know about your body and this class has helped me tremendously.
I was a runner for years and needed to change up my workouts. I was in great cardio shape, but I didn't feel toned or strong. Plus my hips starting causing me problems. I was introduced to Pure Barre Brentwood and have been going ever since. The teachers in this studio truly care about you.
Pure Barre is the type of workout that you keep coming back to. Not only is it challenging, but you feel so empowered during it. It's nice to go somewhere that doesn't require you to think about your workout or how many reps you have to do to achieve XZY for the day.
Your first barre class at Pure Barre
New to barre? Almost everyone is their first time, and a good studio expects beginners to walk in the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: barre blends small isometric holds and tiny pulses at a ballet barre with light weights and mat work — it's low-impact and joint-friendly, but it works muscles you didn't know you had, so a little shaking in your legs is the point, not a problem. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: fitted leggings and a top you can move in — nothing baggy, so the instructor can see your form. Grip socks: most barre studios require grip socks — bring a pair or check whether they sell them at the front desk; the grippy soles keep you steady during the pulses. What to bring: water and a small towel. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign in and meet your instructor. It clicks fast — most people say their third class feels completely different from their first.
