From the reviews
I went to DB on a whim in February- and what started as a completely random thing I signed up for via Groupon, has become something that I commit to going to several times a week because I like it so much.
This is my favorite workout in Detroit. All of the teachers are great, and there is a lot of emphasis on good form. Since the studio is small, the teachers are able to provide a lot of individual attention and corrections.
If you're looking for incredibly effective, low-impact, whole-body fitness, you should definitely try Detroit Barre. Unlike franchise/chain barre fitness studios, Detroit Barre is authentic, unique, and *beautifully* located right across from the Detroit River where at the right time of day/year, you might look out…
I walk quite a bit, but going to Detroit Barre truly changed my body and strength. I am not a fan of working out in general, which is why I loved walking so much. It is low impact, but built muscle using my own body as weight.
Your first barre class at Detroit Barre
New to barre? Almost everyone is their first time, and a good studio expects beginners to walk in the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: barre blends small isometric holds and tiny pulses at a ballet barre with light weights and mat work — it's low-impact and joint-friendly, but it works muscles you didn't know you had, so a little shaking in your legs is the point, not a problem. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: fitted leggings and a top you can move in — nothing baggy, so the instructor can see your form. Grip socks: most barre studios require grip socks — bring a pair or check whether they sell them at the front desk; the grippy soles keep you steady during the pulses. What to bring: water and a small towel. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign in and meet your instructor. It clicks fast — most people say their third class feels completely different from their first.
