FABULOUS! Every aspect from the workout to atmosphere at Birdies is awesome and welcoming. Riley was an amazing instructor, never calls you out or pushes you past your comfort level. She was so encouraging and upbeat, her barre class hurt so good!! I will absolutely be going again.
An awesome neighborhood fitness studio in North Fishtown!!! Birdies is a welcoming space with challenging and fun classes - you will get your sweat on while bopping along to the music!!
My baby and I did the mom and me barre class. We had so much fun!!! The instructor, Kat, was very helpful and educational on postpartum form. My seven month old had a blast with the other babies. It felt super special to do something for myself but to not have to leave my baby.
I am a big fan of Birdies Barre. I have attended classes with Kat (the super sweet owner!) and Jacqueline - both were great! Will be back and will bring friends to join me. Bonus: the merch/branding is so stinkin' cute and the decor is the studio is adorable.
Your first barre class at Birdies Barre and Fitness Studio
New to barre? Almost everyone is their first time, and a good studio expects beginners to walk in the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: barre blends small isometric holds and tiny pulses at a ballet barre with light weights and mat work — it's low-impact and joint-friendly, but it works muscles you didn't know you had, so a little shaking in your legs is the point, not a problem. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: fitted leggings and a top you can move in — nothing baggy, so the instructor can see your form. Grip socks: most barre studios require grip socks — bring a pair or check whether they sell them at the front desk; the grippy soles keep you steady during the pulses. What to bring: water and a small towel. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign in and meet your instructor. It clicks fast — most people say their third class feels completely different from their first.
