From the reviews

As a new client, it can be intimidating to walk through the doors of a fitness studio for the first time, but not at Barre3. Every instructor, staff member, and fellow client made me feel welcome from the start!

Wow! This is a great place! I was in Iowa City for a week and found Barre 3 on Google. There was a special for 3 classes in one week which was perfect for me. Everyone from the receptionist to the teachers to the participants were very friendly. The space is very clean and welcoming.

I absolutely LOVE Barre3 Iowa City!! The workouts help build strength, balance, and endurance needed for a healthy lifestyle and remaining independent as we grow older. There is no focus on the way you look, losing weight, or comparisons to others. What makes this studio truly special is the community.

Your first barre class at barre3

New to barre? Almost everyone is their first time, and a good studio expects beginners to walk in the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: barre blends small isometric holds and tiny pulses at a ballet barre with light weights and mat work — it's low-impact and joint-friendly, but it works muscles you didn't know you had, so a little shaking in your legs is the point, not a problem. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: fitted leggings and a top you can move in — nothing baggy, so the instructor can see your form. Grip socks: most barre studios require grip socks — bring a pair or check whether they sell them at the front desk; the grippy soles keep you steady during the pulses. What to bring: water and a small towel. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign in and meet your instructor. It clicks fast — most people say their third class feels completely different from their first.

Barre is low-impact, so it suits most bodies and fitness levels — but if you're pregnant or working around an injury, check with a doctor and let your instructor know so they can offer modifications.
