From the reviews

I am obsessed with Pure Barre in State College, PA. I've been wanting to start working out to not only improve my physical health but also to improve my mental health. I’ve struggled with gyms in the past, because I had no idea what I was doing which led to being anxious about it.

I absolutely LOVE the State College Pure Barre! I was intimidated for my first workout, but the employees made it such a positive experience for me. The owner was incredibly kind, quick to answer my questions and prepare me for my session. I worked out muscles I didn’t even know I had!

I love coming to PB to get my day started!! The members at the front are so welcoming, and the classes are killer! I didn’t even know I needed barre in my life until I tried it! Such a sense of community in the classes with everyone you meet.

Your first barre class at Pure Barre

New to barre? Almost everyone is their first time, and a good studio expects beginners to walk in the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: barre blends small isometric holds and tiny pulses at a ballet barre with light weights and mat work — it's low-impact and joint-friendly, but it works muscles you didn't know you had, so a little shaking in your legs is the point, not a problem. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: fitted leggings and a top you can move in — nothing baggy, so the instructor can see your form. Grip socks: most barre studios require grip socks — bring a pair or check whether they sell them at the front desk; the grippy soles keep you steady during the pulses. What to bring: water and a small towel. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign in and meet your instructor. It clicks fast — most people say their third class feels completely different from their first.

Barre is low-impact, so it suits most bodies and fitness levels — but if you're pregnant or working around an injury, check with a doctor and let your instructor know so they can offer modifications.
