From the reviews
I took my first Pure Barre class in fall 2012, shortly after Pure Barre Columbia opened. I was hooked immediately! That first class was the first time I both enjoyed a workout and felt challenged by it.
I had honestly never heard of Pure Barre before they moved to their new location on Bluff Creek. It is so close to my home I decided to give it a try not really knowing what to expect. That was 3 months ago and I was instantly hooked. All of the instructors are so welcoming and helpful.
I've been taking classes at Pure Barre for a little over three years, and I'm still obsessed. Each class is a little bit different, so it's always challenging and keeps you engaged. The addition of Empower to the schedule over the summer also now provides a cardio option to make your workout even more effective.
I love coming to Pure Barre! I was so nervous my first few times but the instructors do a great job at helping you with your form and making you feel welcome. I highly recommend them for anyone looking for exercise classes!
Your first barre class at Pure Barre
New to barre? Almost everyone is their first time, and a good studio expects beginners to walk in the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: barre blends small isometric holds and tiny pulses at a ballet barre with light weights and mat work — it's low-impact and joint-friendly, but it works muscles you didn't know you had, so a little shaking in your legs is the point, not a problem. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: fitted leggings and a top you can move in — nothing baggy, so the instructor can see your form. Grip socks: most barre studios require grip socks — bring a pair or check whether they sell them at the front desk; the grippy soles keep you steady during the pulses. What to bring: water and a small towel. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign in and meet your instructor. It clicks fast — most people say their third class feels completely different from their first.
