Shannan, the Pilates instructor is so nice, and she goes above and beyond to help everyone who enters her studio. When I showed up 6 months ago, I was in so much pain and sleep deprived because I could not find a painless position to sleep in, in fact just sitting for too long would throw my back into painful episodes…
Shannan was great. I had a severe illness where I had to relearn everything. After 8 months of pilates reformer .. I have core strength and stamina. What really surprised me was better brain function from the concentration on articulating the movements correctly to maximize the workout without injuring myself.
Every year my family goes on vacation to Lakeport, and I always miss going to yoga back at home but this place definitely exceeded my expectations for a great Pilates class.
Shannon and Chris will get you addicted to Pilates! It’s such a great atmosphere and wonderful instructors. I’m so grateful for them.
Your first barre class at Carve Pilates + Barre Studio
New to barre? Almost everyone is their first time, and a good studio expects beginners to walk in the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: barre blends small isometric holds and tiny pulses at a ballet barre with light weights and mat work — it's low-impact and joint-friendly, but it works muscles you didn't know you had, so a little shaking in your legs is the point, not a problem. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: fitted leggings and a top you can move in — nothing baggy, so the instructor can see your form. Grip socks: most barre studios require grip socks — bring a pair or check whether they sell them at the front desk; the grippy soles keep you steady during the pulses. What to bring: water and a small towel. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign in and meet your instructor. It clicks fast — most people say their third class feels completely different from their first.
