From the reviews
Upon moving to the area I began researching local gyms. I was hoping to find a place that offered fitness classes that were low impact (due to my lower back troubles) but were challenging enough to provide total body results whie doing so in a friendly/warm environment.
I love the classes at Above Barre. I have been going 3 times per week for 4 months and have noticed a smaller waist line, toned legs, arms, and thighs, and increased energy and flexibility. The real upside is that the workouts are so fun and it's easy to ratchet up in skill as your strength and flexibility improves.
Love Above Barre! I've been going 2-3 times a week for a year now and notice a huge difference! The instructors make it fun and I love that they give you 3 levels to each exercise so you can push yourself however you feel that day.
Above Barre is great! I've been seven times the past three weeks and have only had awesome experiences. I can already feel my core has strengthened and my back is stronger.
Your first barre class at Above Barre
New to barre? Almost everyone is their first time, and a good studio expects beginners to walk in the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: barre blends small isometric holds and tiny pulses at a ballet barre with light weights and mat work — it's low-impact and joint-friendly, but it works muscles you didn't know you had, so a little shaking in your legs is the point, not a problem. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: fitted leggings and a top you can move in — nothing baggy, so the instructor can see your form. Grip socks: most barre studios require grip socks — bring a pair or check whether they sell them at the front desk; the grippy soles keep you steady during the pulses. What to bring: water and a small towel. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign in and meet your instructor. It clicks fast — most people say their third class feels completely different from their first.
